Kentville residents elect six councillors and the mayor every four years during municipal elections. This team meets each month during the Council Advisory Committee (CAC) meeting with directors to understand town operations, and to receive recommendations from staff.  At the end of each month, council considers these and other recommendations and makes decisions in the best interest of the town. Both the CAC and council meetings are open to the public, either live at Town Hall or online using YouTube.  All council meetings and council meeting highlights are available on the town's YouTube channel.

In order to promote local participation in municipal government, and to get residents in the valley thinking about running for Council or sitting on committees, Kentville is organizing an event called Positive Politics and Pizza.  The goal of the event is to bring together selected Mayors and Councillors to tell residents about their experience in government.

Join us at the Kentville Fire Hall on 6-8pm February 29, 2024

Positive Politics and Pizza poster with panelist photos and bios

Who should attend?

If you are interested in community, or local government, or politics you should come!  We hope that adults, seniors and high school and university students will attend, and their families are welcome as well (there will be a Kids Zone).  Residents from across the Annapolis Valley are invited, and everyone is welcome.

How will the event run?

There will be three people at the front of the room (panelists) who have experience in local government.  They are Mayors or Councillors from municipal governments in the Valley.  The event will focus on three panelists who will answer questions about their experience in government, and how it has made their lives better and their communities better.  The event will have a host or “moderator”, who will guide the conversations.

Where will we sit?

Tables will be set up for friends and families to sit and eat together.  We encourage small discussions and dinner (pizza) at each table.

Will there be pizza?

Yes.  Please bring an appetite for learning and a curiosity for local government, and we will bring pizza.

Will there be ENOUGH pizza?

This is not an “all you can eat event”, but we will do our best to have some pizza for everyone!  Please let us know if you are coming and if you want pizza!

What will the event be like?

The moderator will start the event by introducing themselves and introducing the panelists.  They will also give a land acknowledgement.  The moderator will ask the panelists one question and they will answer one at a time.  Eash person has a ten-minute limit.  The panelists will be prepared for these questions.  After each question period (around 30 minutes) the audience will have a chance to discuss at their table and eat for around 10 minutes.  The audience will be encouraged to create their own questions for panelists and submit them to the moderator.

Will the event be accessible?

The Kentville Fire Hall is considered to be a very accessible facility.  It is barrier free with wide doorways, accessible washrooms, and some power assist doors.  There may be sign language interpreters at the event, if some are available.

Can I bring my kids?

Yes!  There will be a supervised play zone so that families can attend together.
